Over the course of my seven years at Westridge, during which I took five years of Latin, the most prominently discussed yet mysterious learning aid is VHL.
See, I don’t even know what the letters stand for and will not be doing any extra research. Vehicle Handstand Laws. Viking Ham Limbo. Vat of Hamster Livers. Villa Housing Lobsters. Victor and Harvey Leave. Vi-Hicu-Lar (manslaughter).
But even more mysterious to me is the VHL content.
My educated guess is that VHL is a website. That’s one thing I know for Sure. My second best educated guess is that VHL is a front for organized crime, but for now I think I’ll stick to the website theory until I find further evidence.
In the brief moments I interact with my token friends who take Spanish (I try to keep the number of them to a minimum), I have discerned that VHL is, to put it simply, applicable. It sounds like a lot of Spanish students are learning how to pick up women and hold brief conversations over romantic tapas dinners, which is pretty much the sole reason I’d take any language, so, big fan! I have, personally, scored many points with the ladies translating their sorority proverbs and whipping out my Qui, Quae, Quod chart. Hit em’ with the "salve, puellas" and I’m practically swarmed.
But most importantly, I have also heard about an associated animated man, who I imagine is the Spirit of VHL. His name is perhaps Viachelle. In that case I’m going to believe that the only way to summon Viachelle is with a pentagram and a circle of candles. Which language is the cult NOW?!
Anyway. Still wondering exactly what purpose VHL serves. I’ll keep you all updated.
From your very, very cool Latin student. Salve, puellas ;)
