While we are not technically living in an authoritative regime right now, you never know what might happen or who might be in control of censorship. I, personally, appreciate democracy but also understand that sometimes a more authoritative edge is necessary for certain issues. One in particular I believe is incredibly important to maintaining society at its most fundamental level: banning books.
But instead of banning books like, I don’t know, The Handmaid’s Tale because it hits a little too close to home, or Fahrenheit 451, you ban books that deserve to be banned. Here are some of them.
The Dictionary
Firstly, it doesn’t really serve a purpose. Even without the internet, I think language is a societal construct and, personally, I don’t live in a society. Secondly, they’re, frankly, too big. Thirdly, no plot, lacks substance and isn't engaging.
War and Peace
Too big.
The Witch of Blackbird Pond
Scared me a little not gonna lie. But what really got me was its blatant plagiarism of The Crucible--for a school that values integrity so deeply, I find it disgraceful that it’s a part of the 8th grade curriculum.
Gone With the Wind
Racist, but also too big.
The Warrior Cats Series
I don’t know what drug the authors put in the Warrior Cats series but I spent 2 and half years on some kind of high because of those stupid cat books. Save America’s youth and ban this book, please.
The Communist Manifesto
I know I’ll probably get some hate for this one, but I think we’re a little too willy nilly about communism these days. Just like knives or emotions, until we can learn to handle something, we have to keep it out of reach.
