As per every Youtuber at least once in their career does, it is time for us to come clean about the legal allegations against Thursday Detention. In order to substantively address our past mistakes, we have taken some pointers from James Charles’s apology script so that our apology sounds sincere and thought through.
As you may have already noticed, in many of our articles, we place legal disclaimers before referencing celebrities and making comments that could potentially incriminate us to the point of no return, and we feel it is only fair to explain why. The truth is, we’re traumatized. As the editors of a life-changing magazine, we hold the weight of the world on our shoulders. The Associated Press fears us, and as such, we are under a lot of pressure to release content that is inspiring. You can imagine the terror that would spark if we received backlash from our fanbase, and yet, that is exactly what happened.
On a fateful day last year, our predecessors received an email from a photographer who was threatening to sue us. We had used their photograph from Stock images without letting them know, and when the world-renowned photographer found out, things went south. See below.
The email was scathing, almost as horrible as our Yelp reviews are. We were horrified, and anxious about the future of the magazine. Our lives were on the line. If the photographer took legal action, we could be thrown behind bars for the rest of our lives. Everything was at stake. As all email politics go, we responded politely, and explained we would take the image down.
There is no excuse for our abhorred actions, and nothing will erase the sins we have committed. We hope our honesty means something to you, reader. We are so sorry.
Sincerely,
The Editors
