I am, by no means, a strong supporter of sports. Not in the sense where I don’t like exercise or sports in general. I grew up in an individualistic sport, one like tennis, swim, dance, etc. Sports that you can only truly get excited about if you appreciate the technique behind it. So, whenever sports would be on the television, I’d avert my eyes or go and run around in the backyard. I didn’t grow up with televised sports, so when the yearly Superbowl comes around, my energy surrounding it is lackluster to say the least.
When it comes to football, I have no clue where to start. It seems terrifyingly intense. So intense that they have to wear full body armor, included mouth guards, to carry a ball across a field. I propose a few games we could play instead:
With all of that said, I don’t want to come across as dissing on team sports. I think they’re phenomenal; I only wish I understood theme. So, when the next Superbowl comes around or the NBA Series, consider jumping in a pool to play sharks and minnows or watch little siblings race around the house with books on their head. Whatever makes that random Sunday in February more fun, do it!

- National sharks and minnows competition. Yes, we see incredible swimmers dive beautifully into the water and complete races faster than most of us could on land. However, we never have witnessed the splendor of powerful athletes competing in a kids’ game.
- Ring toss. Oh yes, this game strikes fear into any carnival-attending child. Those bottles all lined up seem to taunt you, mocking your inability to throw a plastic disk around its neck. This game haunts me and I’d love to see others flounder at it in a competitive environment.
- Hoverboard racing. I don’t really know how this would work as all of them are motorized and similar speeds. Maybe extra points for creativity and stunts?
- Stacking books on people’s head and then telling them to walk a designated amount of laps. I think this one is pretty self-explanatory.
- Organizing bookshelves alphabetically by last name. Those who can do it the fastest win. (I spent 6 hours doing this. Kudos to anybody who attempts this in the first place).
