In lieu of the Superbowl, we thought it would be fitting to help those who struggled to fit in this year. We stand with you, and understand you. Football is confusing, violent, terrifying, overall incredibly odd. Highly padded men run into each other at high speeds carrying a round trapezoid. The field they run on has lines on it that correspond to important numbers. Also there are goals.
Anyway, if you are anything like me on Superbowl Sundays, it is difficult to know what to say when a team “scores” or “touches down?” To help those in need, we have compiled a list of things to yell when you are confused but everyone else in the room is cheering for something.

- “What a great swing!” - This one is great. Tried and true! All football players swing their arms at some point in the game. If someone next to you is cheering, chances are the play had something to do with an arm sway, whether an intentional one or not.
- Scream - Another bestselling cheer. This one is great because you can continue to be extremely confused without losing enthusiasm. Everyone will think you are cheering with them, when in reality, you are screaming out of concern and stress.
- “Such a great play!” - If you say this, I can guarantee everyone in the room will pat you on the back. You do not even need to know what a play is, much less what makes a play good. Say this, and everyone will agree with you, and continue cheering even louder.
- “Go Bagels!” - Classic Ohio slang. Never use this in LA.
- “Look at the spin on that ball!” - Chances are, you can’t see the spin on a football when watching on a TV screen. However, saying this will give you tons and tons of street ‘cred. From my understanding, the spinnier the ball, the better the throw. Screaming about ball spinning is a complement!
- “I like their colors!” - The Superbowl is essentially a fashion show. Shoulder pads are back in style.
- Nervously jump up and down and shriek during the last quarter when you finally realize the team you support is down by 4
- “OMG WE WON? WE DID WIN RIGHT? WE ARE THE BLUE ONES?” - By "we are the blue ones" everyone will know you are not referencing the Smurfs nor Avatar. Clarifying questions are always welcome in a screaming match of football fans. This one will get you far!
