I think I’ve been permanently scarred by Reddit. Every time I accidentally open the app, I feel shivers going down my back. My fight or flight response immediately kicks in. What is it about that app that simply is so terrifying, you might ask? I honestly have no idea. I find it incredibly confusing and overwhelming. As a child, I was not really the person who spent a lot of time on the internet except for sites like CoolMathGames and the like. So, it wasn’t until I was 15 that I discovered Reddit. 3 years later, I need to exorcise my demons with Reddit.
As a recent college applicant, I soon found out that most information provided in college websites and college-adjacent sites are incredibly biased. After being accepted into a few programs I didn’t know much about, I felt the need to get first-hand accounts of other peoples’ experiences. This sadly often brought me to Reddit, specifically subreddits. I really just don’t understand the concept. And I would love if somebody could explain it to me. Also, there are avatars? And karma points? And awards? Is this social media or a video game?
At this point, if you get it, can you please explain? I still use the app but it took me a solid 4 months to figure out Tumblr (which is much simpler). At this rate, I’ll understand Reddit when I’m 34.
Yours truly,
