It’s a hotly debated topic in the academic world: who do you go to for homework help at 1:00 am before a test? Is it the Harvard-educated Sal Khan of Khan Academy, or the enigmatic Organic Chemistry Tutor? Today, loyal readers of Thursday Detention, I will settle once and for all who the better YouTutor is!
Contention 1: The Case For Sal Khan
Sal Khan and I go way back. This man pulled me out of the clutches of failing 7th-grade pre-algebra and busted me out of there with a B+. Sal’s explanations of math topics are the best in the game no doubt! Pre-Algebra, Trigonometry, Statistics, Calculus, Sal Khan knows all! He even operates his own website! What an absolute business mogul. Now, not to say Mr. Khan is perfect, far from it actually. First of all, this man makes so many mistakes in his videos! The amount of times a little popup comes up in the corner of a Khan Academy video because Sal made a mistake with basic arithmetic is astronomical. Sal also talks waaaaaay too slowly! I can still perfectly understand him at 2x speed, so he needs to work on picking up the pace. I don’t have a full 10 minutes to learn a single math concept, Sal! I’ve got my math final next block and I’ve got 20 more topics to go!
Contention 2: The Case for The Organic Chemistry Tutor
Now The Organic Chemistry Tutor has burst onto the scene much more recently (his oldest video is 8 years old while Sal’s is 17 years old!) but has still made quite an impact on former gifted kids struggling to keep their straight A’s. I personally first turned to The Organic Chemistry Tutor back in the 10th grade, for guess what? CHEMISTRY!!! That’s the big upside about the Organic Chemistry Tutor, this man can teach you almost everything Sal Khan can and more! Only from the Organic Chemistry Tutor can you learn about math, chemistry, physics, personal finance, Excel, and the stock market all on the same channel! The Organic Chemistry Tutor is also much better than Sal Khan at using his drawing software. (I swear Sal spends a good half of the time in his videos trying to change the color of his writing.) On the contrary, The Organic Chemistry Tutor’s voice is much more annoying to listen to than Sal’s. Maybe it's just my late night trauma bonding, but there is something soothing about listening to Mr. Khan explaining math concepts at midnight after a good crying session. Also, In my humble opinion, Sal is much better at explaining concepts than The Organic Chemistry Tutor, and his mic quality is lightyears better than his as well.
Conclusion
Overall, you can’t go wrong with either Sal Khan or The Organic Chemistry Tutor for help with your homework. Both are very good at what they do and I myself do watch both of their videos. Sal for math help and The Organic Chemistry Tutor for any other problem I've ever encountered in life. However, I will silently judge you if you choose to watch the Organic Chemistry Tutor’s math videos over Sal Khan's since his are objectively better.
